Look up, not down. Look forward, not back. Look out, not in. — unknown
Walking down the street, I noticed that everyone was looking down. It was a beautiful Autumn day. The sky was blue and the sun was shining, but everyone had their heads either buried in their cell phones, talking or texting, or they were simply looking down. Maybe they were deep in thought or struggling with cares. I don’t really know, but I’ve been there. I’m sure you have too.
What’s the result of all this looking down? Well, other than my neck hurting, my heart tends to feel heavy. Maybe you can relate. All the hours spent texting or on social media, and all our inward complex thoughts have a tendency to do that. This is not God’s best for us, I’m sure.
Look up, dear friend. There’s so much more to life! It’s not that we can’t peek at our phones, connect on social media, or self reflect now and then. But we must find balance, or we’ll lose sight of what truly matters— i.e. actually talking to the people right next to us, smiling at people who cross our path, taking in the beauty of creation, whispered prayers of thanks to God.
Father, thank you for this day, for walking me up, and for all your blessings. Help me not to take this day for granted, but to take time to fully enjoy each moment, with family and friends. Help me to look up not down, forward not back, and out rather than be self absorbed. Amen.

If I’m on a rough road, I may very well be looking down to keep from tripping. But at the same time, I may get to the end of the road not having fallen but also not having enjoyed a lot of the things I missed seeing. As you said – balance. 😉

I’ve missed you for a while. Have you been away; or is it I who dropped the ball? 😀 Good to see you again.

Hi Oneta! Happy Fall! That’s so sweet of you to think of me. You’re right, I’ve been away from blogging. We’ve had family visiting with us almost all summer. Just wanted to take time to be with them. Also been working hard to finish my book, “Pawz & Pray: Finding Joy in the Journey with God, Family, and My Furry Friends!” I’ve found it hard to do everything. But I’m in the home stretch now, yea! The book should be out by January. The house is also calmer . . . at least until next summer when we all visit again. How are you doing? I’m missed you too . . . but that’s surely me who has dropped the ball. Wishing you much joy! Leila xx
