Are you troubled by worry or regret? Jim Carrey said, “If you aren’t in the moment, you are either looking forward to uncertainty, or back to pain and regret.” Learn about the benefits of living in the hear and now.
“Hellooo! Are you there?”
That’s me translating for my dog. It was a typical morning. My thoughts were racing ahead to all that needed to be done. My pup wanted me to throw him his ball however. He placed his head on my lap while I was trying to eat breakfast. Then he placed his big paws on my shoulders, so you can imagine that got my attention! Finally, I threw him his ball. You know how that goes. He brought it back for more, and more . . .
My thoughts drifted back to the “here and now.” It’s a less stressful place actually, the here and now. I stayed in the moment for awhile, enjoying playing with my dog.
Dogs are some of my favorite teachers, imparting wisdom into my life in ways I never thought possible! One of the most cherished lessons I’ve learned from my dogs is to live in the moment.
Dogs are masters of mindfulness. In other words, they are aware of their surroundings and what they’re doing moment by moment . . . and I believe that they extract the fullest joy from each moment. I think this is what gives them their carefree spirit.
What is mindfulness? And what are the benefits? Here are a few definitions of mindfulness . . .
“The practice of maintaining a nonjudgmental state of heightened or complete awareness of one’s thoughts, emotions, or experiences on a moment-to-moment basis.” Merriam-Webster Dictionary
“Mindfulness is the act of being intensely aware of what you’re sensing and feeling at every moment – without interpretation or judgment.” Mayo Clinic
“Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.” —Mindful.org
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself…” —Jesus (Mathew 6:34)

Father, thank you for this moment in time. Help me to stay in the here and now, and be fully present with those I love. Amen

Pawz & Pray Book Review
“Leila’s book has been a true inspiration to me. It makes you focus on what’s really important in life. The author gives us great examples on how we can have a closer walk with God by following the lead that our pets give us in their everyday life. “Pawz & Pray” encourages us to put our worry and anxiety aside and take time to enjoy the things God has put right in front of us. This book has touched my heart in an indescribable way. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves animals and wants to have a closer connection to our Heavenly Father.”
