The Bright Side of Worry

The Bright Side of Worry

We all worry. It’s human nature, and probably not the part of our nature we adore.

As uncomfortable as worrying can be however, there is a bright side, spiritually speaking …

Worry can be used to drive us closer to God, and teach us to trust him.

It’s like the child who has a bad dream at night and calls for his mom or dad or runs to their room.

In the same way, worry causes us to call out to our heavenly Papa and draw near to him in prayer.

How do you draw near to God?

Everyone has a unique way of drawing close to God. Me, when I worry, I guess one of the very first things I do is hug my dog. I truly believe God uses our pets as ministering angels in our times of need.

Another thing I do is read my Bible and recall comforting bible verses. I even quote verses out loud. This helps to replace anxious thoughts with grateful thoughts, and lies with TRUTH.

I also pray and sing worship songs. Worship is a powerful tool to calm our fears! It takes the focus off of our worries and onto our Creator— the One who has the power to move every ominous mountain in our life! Then I take a few slow deep breaths and make the choice to trust that no matter what lies ahead, God will take care of me and of those I love.

Trusting God involves resting, letting go, and surrendering my will …

But not just to anyone. To God!

If you’re needing peace of mind about the future, or even about what lies ahead today or this week, please don’t worry. Instead, let those anxious thoughts draw you close to God, and he will draw close to you. Being close to God is the very BEST place to be in life. It’s for this we were created.

When close to God, we can experience the bright side to every situation because we’ll be resting on his love rather than worrying about life!

Dear friend, draw close to God. Talk to him, trust him, rest in his loving arms. Believe that you are dearly loved!

Heavenly Papa, I draw near to you now. No matter what happens today or tomorrow, or anywhere down the road, please help me not to worry. Instead, help me to trust your plan and rest in your loving arms. Thank you for being such a good Father, and for caring about what’s on my heart. Amen

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. – James 4:8

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
