What Birds Teach Us About Trusting God

Have you ever stopped to watch a bird for a few moments?

This morning, I found myself doing just that. A small red bird landed nearby, hopping through the grass with what seemed like complete confidence.

I observed awhile…

It wasn’t rushing. It wasn’t worrying. It simply went about the business of being a bird, gathering the seeds that had fallen from my feeder.

As I watched, I couldn’t help but smile.

How different that little creature seemed from me…

I spend far too much time worrying about tomorrow. My mind drifts to responsibilities, unfinished tasks, current challenges, and all the unknowns that lie ahead. Yet that tiny bird seemed completely at peace.

I want more peace… don’t we all?

Of course, birds face challenges too. Storms come. Food must be found. Nests must be built. Yet somehow they continue singing.

Jesus’ words came to mind:

“Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?” (Matthew 6:26)

If only we would be more like our bird friends… trusting God day by day for all our needs.

Friend, the same Father who watches over the birds is watching over you. He sees your worries, knows your needs, and lovingly cares for you in ways you may not even realize.

Perhaps that’s why the birds keep singing.

“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (Matthew 6:34)

Let’s Pray

Lord, thank you for our bird friends, beautiful reminders that it’s possible to trust you day by day, even through life’s storms.

When I begin to worry about tomorrow, help me remember that you are already there. Remind me that you know my needs before I ask and that I am precious in your sight.

Help me to trust you more, remain thankful for your many blessings, and sing your praise in every season.

Amen
