When Anxiety Was Great

Think about those moments when your heart was racing—and a sweet snuggle from your pooch slowed everything down. Or when worries felt heavy, and your dog’s silly antics coaxed out a smile. Or those times you were sick in bed, and your dog quietly curled up beside you, staying close as if to help you heal.

Having experienced moments like these—and so many more—I have no doubt God made dogs to walk with us through life. A journey often marked by heavy hearts and anxious minds. Their constant companionship and healing paws bring much-needed calm to our sometimes chaotic days.

Of course, God made dogs for many wonderful reasons—to protect, to play, to bring joy and laughter, to teach us loyalty and unconditional love. But for me, the reason that stands out most is comfort. Especially in anxious moments. Their faithful presence reminds me that God loves me, that he is with me, and that he cares deeply for my needs.

I’m so thankful.

Dear friend, if you’re struggling with anxiety today, take a moment to snuggle with your pets. Let that quiet time become a prayer. Close your eyes. Connect with God. He loves you—unconditionally. Rest in his love for a while.

I’m praying that a fresh awareness of his unfailing love gently carries you from anxiety into peace.

“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.” —Psalm 94:19

“Perfect love drives out fear.” —1 John 4:18

You know how I’m feeling right now. Please calm my heart and fill me with your peace. I need you.

Thank you for loving me and caring for all my needs. And thank you for my sweet dogs, who brighten my days when I need it most.

Amen.
