Finding God in Horses: A Reflection on Faith and Creation

“I am still under the impression that there is nothing alive quite so beautiful as a horse.” – John Galsworthy

As a young girl, I used to ride and show horses. There was something about them—their beauty, strength, and quiet intelligence—that stirred something deep inside me. Amid the ups and downs of my teenage years, my weekly riding lessons and stable chores became a haven. I still remember one evening, after finishing mucking the stalls and other barn chores, I dozed off in a stall. It sounds odd, I know, but it was so peaceful there.

The horses became my friends. They didn’t just carry me on their backs—they carried me through tough seasons. When I felt weak, they shared their strength. Riding gave me a kind of freedom, like wings I didn’t yet have but longed for.

I don’t ride anymore, sadly, but I still love watching horses graze in the fields, run freely, and nuzzle each other. I marvel at how kind God was to create them. They bring joy, companionship, and even powerful life lessons. The Bible even speaks of horses in profound ways. One of my favorite verses is in Revelation, describing Jesus’ return:

“Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True…” – Revelation 19:11

Jesus on a white horse! Wow! Can you picture it? It’s symbolic of purity, power, and victory. Christ is our victory. And one day, He’ll return—not in weakness, but in glory—to make all things right.

Thinking back, I remember what it felt like to ride: the wind in my hair, the strength beneath me, the sense of freedom and trust. Horses gave me a glimpse of something greater—something I now know was pointing to Him. There is such freedom and hope in Jesus—right now, and for all eternity!

Dear God, thank You for speaking through Your creation. Thank You for horses—for their strength, their spirit, and the joy they bring. And thank You that one day You’ll return on a white horse to make all things right. Amen.

Wishing you comfort and joy!
