Some mornings feel like a roller coaster—up, down, joy, sorrow. The news is heartbreaking. Violence, division, and loss seem to be everywhere. Some mornings feel like an emotional roller coaster. One minute I’m reading about tragedy. The next, I’m hearing about a wedding, a birth, a beautiful success story. It’s all so much, all at once.
Honestly, I don’t think we were built to carry the weight of the whole world every day.
That’s probably why I envy my dogs.
Each morning, without fail, I’m greeted by joyful tail wags and wet-nosed kisses. They don’t know what’s happening in the world—and they don’t carry its sorrow.
Instead, they wake up excited.
Excited to eat.
Excited to walk.
Excited just to be.
And somehow, in the middle of all the chaos, their enthusiasm brings me back to the present. Their love reminds me I’m not alone.
Maybe that’s what I’m supposed to feel today. Not everything. Just… love. ❤️
Friend, life will keep tugging at our hearts. We can’t stop the ups and downs, the mix of sorrow and joy. But we can pause. We can step off the roller coaster and return to this moment—the sunshine, the breakfast, the gentle nudge of a furry friend who just wants to be near you.
If my dogs could recite a verse each morning, I think they’d choose:
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” —Psalm 118:24
Learning to rejoice isn’t always easy. My heart aches for those grieving, and yet it also celebrates the good in this world. I don’t have all the answers, but I do know this:
When I feel overwhelmed, my dogs brings me back—to love, to life, to the simple gift of a brand new day.
And that’s enough.
“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows; it empties today of its strength.”
