When I’m feeling blue, my dogs motivate me to get out and walk. And when I do, I always gain fresh perspective and feel happier!
Life is tough, and more often than not we find ourselves sitting inside lamenting our problems in the dark rather than getting outside and letting nature and sunshine help us heal.
Personally, I think dog owners have an amazing advantage in this area. Dogs need their daily walks or playtime outside. What better motivator to lay aside our problems and get outside and hang out with our furry friends!
If you’re feeling sad or troubled in heart, I’d like to encourage you to get your walking shoes on, and get outside. Let your dogs lead you to beautiful places where nature soothes the weary soul and vibrant colors ignite feelings of hope. Breath in the fresh air and exhale any worry and fear. See God in creation, be encouraged, and give thanks.
There are countless amazing benefits to walking your dog. These are just a few I’ve found personally helpful.

Be encouraged. This too shall pass!
Heartache is tough … it hurts deep within the soul, weighs the heart down, and troubles the mind. But in our pain God offers us hope. That hope is His presence.

Happiness tip #8: Keep your eyes on the road ahead
Keep your eyes on the road ahead. Stop looking back! Trust that your struggles (past or present) have purpose, and that they are developing in you great strength for tomorrow. So let go of past disappointments and hurts and look ahead to all the wondrous possibilities that lay in store. Though you cannot know what the future holds, you can trust the One who holds the future. Fear not. Whether God leads into a valley or a mountain top, He promises to be with us and to guide us. And the best part is that every trial we’ve faced has prepared us for what lies ahead. So keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and look ahead with joyful hope and confidence. Jesus is our faithful champion who initiates and perfects our faith as we walk with Him! Look ahead . . .

If you’re feeling sad, there’s probably one thing you’re looking for . . . RELIEF!In other words, you want to be happy again. What if I told you that snuggling has the potential to lift your spirit of heaviness?
During a difficult and busy season of my life, I found myself battling the blues. Day after day it lingered and I desperately wanted to find some relief. Then, late one evening, I was slumped in a chair, head down, with tears streaming down my face. My dog was right there at my feet and gently reached up to lick my tears. She then laid her head on my lap as if to say, “I’m here for you, wanna cuddle?” Of course I obliged and almost immediately felt relief from my sadness.
Happiness is found in many places, and for many people that place is in the company of their beloved dogs. Dogs always seem willing and ready to share their healing hugs, or to lend a listening ear.
Of course finding relief from sadness is not reserved only for our pets. Intimacy with others is one of the essential elements to make human beings happier, but we don’t often take enough time to sit and relax with those we love.
What if we took time to stop, sit, and snuggle more often? How would that affect our moods and outlook on life? Let’s consider how showing affection to our human companions (family and friends) and our pets can enhance our life.
