2020 has been a chaotic a year for millions around the world. And if you’re dealing with depression, know that you’re not alone.
To give you perspective, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (AADA), in 2015, around 16.1 million adults aged 18 years or older in the U.S. experienced at least one major depressive episode, which represents 6.7 percent of all American adults. In 2020, with the global pandemic gripping the world, COVID-19 has likely tripled depression rate, study finds.
There are different types of depressive disorders, and all sorts of treatment options. In this blog post, I would simply like to share my personal experience with depression, and share how my dogs played a major role in pulling me through. If you are struggling with depression, and have the good fortune to have a dog (or other beloved pet), I pray this article will offer hope for better days.

Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.Corrie Ten Boom
Heavenly Father, as I go about my day, please help me to trust you with all my heart and not lean on my own understanding of what I see and feel. Remind me that you are good, that you love me, and are with me. And help me to trust that you are sovereign over all the earth. I commit this day to you right now, and all my loved ones. Keep us in your loving care. Amen
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take. — Proverbs 3:5-6
Life doesn’t always make sense.
Things seemed to be going smoothly, and then all of a sudden, for no apparent reason, the road we’re walking takes a terrible turn and we find ourselves trudging through a dark valley. We long for answers, direction, and relief, but don’t always find them. Feelings of discouragement follow . . .
I read a Chinese Proverb recently that says,
A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.
Reading this got me thinking —What’s my song? What’s hidden within my heart that I can rely on when life doesn’t make sense?Continue reading “When Life Doesn’t Make Sense [Short Encouraging Words ]”
Have hard times come your way? Is your heart heavy with care?
Jesus is saying to you, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world! (John 16:33). These are the precious words of our beloved Savior, who died for our sins, rose from the dead, and lives forever to intercede with God on our behalf! (Hebrews 7:25).
That’s the good news we cling to as children of God. Jesus has overcome all the works of the enemy and he is sitting at the right hand of the Father pleading our case! We have the most powerful advocate and faithful friend we could ever hope for. So take heart, dear friend! Don’t lower your gaze when hard times come. Instead, look up! Take heart, trust in God’s goodness and love (Read 23 verses about God’s goodness), and consider troubles as an opportunity for great joy! God is always up to something good!Continue reading “Good News for Hard Times! [Short Encouraging Words]”
