NEVER LOSE HOPE [Dog Mom Reflections]

As I think about the New Year, and consider the daily doom and gloom reports on the news, it’s tempting to lose hope and assume 2021 won’t be much better than 2020. But if my dogs have any say in the matter, I will never lose hope!

Each morning when I wake up (rain or shine) my dogs greet me with an uncanny optimism and with the most endearing expressions! It always makes me smile! Lily, shown in the photo, is modeling one of those adorable expressions for you, with her soulful eyes. One look into her eyes and I feel hope—that sweet peaceful knowing that tomorrow will be okay. I’m sure you pet parents out there know what I’m talking about. . .

After a hard day, you sit in your comfy chair snuggled with your beloved pet. They gaze upward at you as if you are the most special person on earth. You pause, look into their eyes, and feel comforted. You may not know what tomorrow holds, but somehow you feel things will work themselves out. I think God, in his wisdom, knew we’d need a little help while walking this broken road, so he created dogs, with their adoring expressions to help us feel more happy and hopeful.

Dear friend, 2020 has been filled with pain for many folks. But we must never not lose hope! Take a moment and snuggle with your beloved pet. Exhale any worry about 2021, and inhale God’s peace. I beleive that God wants us to look forward to the New Year with hope in our heart. He wants us to renounce worry (about the pandemic, the vaccine, our jobs, health, etc) and rise above our circumstances on wings of eagles…

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31

Some Bible versions use the word “trust” or “wait” instead of “hope” in this verse. So we could also read the verse as, “But those who wait, hope, and trust in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

I don’t know what worries you may be struggling with today, but I’d like to encourage you to do 3 things as you think about the days ahead:

1. WAIT on the Lord. Pray while you wait. Talk to God about anything and everything, and don’t give up.

2. TRUST in God. Trust in God’s goodness and love for you, and in his faithful promises. Knowing God more through his Word will help you to trust him more. Feed on his Word daily. It will be nourishment for your soul.

3. HOPE in God! Let go of the past and anything else you may be clinging to. Cling only to God. Believe that he loves you and has your best interest at heart. Then press onward with HOPE IN YOUR HEART.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him.

Romans 15:13

Wishing you comfort and joy in 2021!
