It’s May and Things are Finally Flourishing!

May blessings! With all the sadness in the world right now I thought I would bring you a little sunshine to brighten your day. The month of May is upon us and things are flourishing. My garden is proof of this. The grass is green, the roses are in bloom, and there are buds everywhere opening up! I love walking in my garden. But today, as I was admiring all the flourishing plants, I sensed a sort of paradox.

The news tells me that the world is basically withering right now due to the global pandemic. But God’s Word tells me that he is good, that he loves me, and that his desire is for me to thrive, prosper, and bloom. As I pondered this paradox, I felt like God was reminding me that flourishing is more of an inward quality that comes as we abide in Christ. In him, we can draw the nutrients needed to help us endure harsh seasons . . . and overcome!

As you move into May, I would like to encourage you to draw close to God and plant your roots deep in his love. This is so important right now. With all the sadness (anxiety, fear, discouragement) trying to seep into our soul, we need refreshing from above more than ever before.

Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

the Lord make his face shine on you

    and be gracious to you;

the Lord turn his face toward you

    and give you peace.”
