First Thing in the Morning! [Excerpt from “Pawz & Pray”]

Devotion for Dog Lovers. Excerpt from the book, "Pawz & Pray: Finding Joy in the Journey with God, Family and Furry Friends. 130 Uplifting Stories and Devotions for Dog Lovers!
We all get busy and overwhelmed at times, and prayer often falls to the wayside. Read this uplifting story (inspired by my furry friends!) from my book, “Pawz & Pray,” and be encouraged to begin your day with Jesus. He loves you, and cares about everything that concerns you!

In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. — Psalm 5:3

Making lists can be very useful, but when anxious thoughts greet us with the sunrise, nag at us all day, and accompany us to bed, something is out of balance. Recently I became so overwhelmed with my “to do” list all I could do was cry. Yet while the storm was raging within, my dog lay calmly by my side without a care in the world. She knew where to turn for all her needs.

Early the next morning, I found myself rolling out of bed and onto my knees. I prayed, “Oh God, there’s so much on my plate. I need your help . . .” I lingered awhile with God, talking, listening, and reading some Bible verses. Those early morning prayers became the calm in my storm. Comforted, I was ready to face the challenges ahead. But this time I knew, I wouldn’t be alone.

Turning to God before setting out on our day can be one of the hardest things to do. It certainly was for me. My tendency is to think that I can do “life” on my own, when in fact, I was created to walk hand in hand with my Heavenly Father. Thankfully, my never-ending “to do” list is there to remind me of my need for God.

Father, there’s so much to do each day. Remind me to turn to you first thing in the morning for help. Amen

Sometimes our stop-doing list needs to be bigger than our to-do list.

Book Endorsements

Leila’s book has been a true inspiration to me. It makes you focus on what’s really important in life. The author gives us great examples on how we can have a closer walk with God by following the lead that our pets give us in their everyday life. “Pawz & Pray” encourages us to put our worry and anxiety aside and take time to enjoy the things God has put right in front of us. This book has touched my heart in an indescribable way. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves animals and wants to have a closer connection to our Heavenly Father.
