As we enter into the Fall season, with the leaves changing colors, I’m reminded of the famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi–
“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
Current events tell us that the world can be an ugly place. Thankfully, we have a choice. We can be part of the ugliness, or we can be the change we hope to see.
Change is powerful! Because when we change for the better, folks take notice and may even be inspired. Where once we complained, now we’re giving thanks. Where once we were bitter, now we are walking in forgiveness. Where once we were marked by sadness, now we radiate joy!
Sometimes we fear change. Change can be difficult, and uncomfortable. But it’s all part of God’s plan to move us forward — like the changing seasons, like growing up and maturing with all the changes that take place (physically, mentally, and spiritually). Sometimes things have to die to give way to better things in us. And that’s okay. We can let go, like leaves falling to the ground, knowing that after Fall comes Winter, then Spring with all the incredible new beginnings, new births, and brilliant new colors! Then Summer, and Fall, and on and on. We are all constantly changing, and being changed by God’s Sovereign wisdom and hand.
May God help us make positive changes (as we surrender to his plans) that will reflect his glory in word and deed, that everywhere we go, people will experience God’s love. Let’s be the change we hope to see in others and in the world. Let’s be kind and compassionate, forgiving and merciful, joyful and hopeful, and all that is good, lovely and pure. Of course, we can’t do any of this really well on our own. So let’s go to God in prayer, asking for his help 🧡
Father God, help me to be the change! Help me to make the world brighter and happier, in word and deed. Thank you for the changing seasons and the leaves that are turning brilliant colors. And thank you for the positive changes taking place in me. Amen
