“The secret of happiness is to count your blessings while others are adding up their troubles.” — William Penn
Happiness Tip #1: Count your blessings
Life can be tough, and more often than not, we count our sorrows rather than our blessings. The result is often a troubled heart. God doesn’t want us to be troubled. Jesus said, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me” (John 14:1). Rather than dwelling on all that’s not going well, fix your thoughts on all that is good, lovely, and pure. It might help to turn off the news for a while, or to take a break from social media. Spend more time outdoors if possible, linger in God’s Word, hang out with friends who tend to see the sunny side of life. Do whatever it takes to help you call to mind God’s blessings. Count them moment by moment, especially when things seem at their worse. A thankful heart takes the focus off our troubles and calms the anxious heart. No matter how bad we feel, there’s always something to be thankful for. We just need to pause and look a little more carefully, around us, and even within us. As we count, what typically happens is our focus shifts from self to God, from fear to faith, and from sorrow to joy!
Wishing you happiness, peace, and joy!
