More Love, My New Year’s Resolution

“A dog will teach you unconditional love. If you can have that in your life, things won’t be too bad.” –Robert Wagner

As I considered all the possible New Year’s resolutions I could make, I started feeling a bit overwhelmed. There’s so much I want to accomplish, and also improve on. Closing my eyes to pray, I asked God, “What should my New Year’s Resolution be?”

The words “more love” swirled around in my mind as I snuggled with my precious pup. To love and be loved is such a beautiful feeling! Especially when that love is unconditional. I felt like God brought me back to the basics of life, and the greatest commandment . . .

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Mathew 22:37-39

After meditating on this verse more, I decided not to make any specific goals, like eating healthier or working out more. I’m simply going to focus on loving more–Loving God, loving others, and also loving myself more and better. In doing so, I’m believing that everything else will naturally fall into place, by His grace, and according to God’s will.

As I connect with God daily through prayer and His Word, talking to Him about big things, little things, and everything in between, I’m certain that He will help me to walk into 2019 day by day, moment by moment, infused by His grace to do what I cannot do on my own. No pressure, only grace. And I know I’ll need His grace to lose these extra pounds I’ve accumulated over the holidays!

Whatever New Year’s resolution you’ve made, may the love of God be woven throughout. 1 Corinthians 15:1 reminds us to let love be our highest goal! Love God, love our neighbors, and let’s not forget to also love ourselves. Loving ourselves means many things, like caring for our body and mind through healthy lifestyle choices, as well as caring for and nurturing our relationships. It also means that we don’t need to carry our burdens into 2019. Instead, we can let go of the past, give every burden to God in prayer, and travel light into the New Year with gratitude and joy in our heart 😄.

Take it easy, dear friends. Talk to God about everything. Be kind to yourself. No pressure, only grace and love.

Let love be your highest goal.– 1 Corinthians 15:1

Happy New Year ❤️

“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.” —1 Corinthians 13:4-7, 13
