Sunshine for the Soul Blog

Hope, healing, and happiness are three words I’ve longed for my entire life, and when they entered my world, it felt as if my soul was basking in the SUN, which is the reason for this blog post.

For awhile I’ve been struggling with a title for my blog. It’s morphed from “Sharing Hope,” to “Hope in the Night,” . . . and now, after much prayer and soul searching, it will be

I want to thank you, my readers, for hanging with me while I learn and grow, and share the incredible “God Moments” I’ve experienced along the way. So here’s a bit about why I finally decided on this blog title.

Why this title?

A little background. My personal story, coming out of darkness into God’s healing light, has been life changing! One thing that happens when you start to experience healing is that you feel compelled to share all the good things you’ve experienced with others. Can anyone relate? There’s a verse I love that confirms this desire:

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

I used to write from a place of brokenness, and I do think people can relate to feeling broken, anxious, sad, depressed, or lonely. But as I walked out of the valley, I sensed God speaking to my spirit—

You’ve been writing from a place of brokenness, but now you’re ready to write from a place of healing.

Those words were the foundation of the change in my blog title. I want to focus on the sunshine (hope, healing, happiness), and believe as I keep my face toward the sun, the shadows of life will fall behind . . . for me, for you, and for all the world!

A little bit about the title—Sunshine for the Soul

Why Sunshine?

I would venture to say that everyone loves sunshine. It a visual that inspires hope, healing and happiness, three topics that are dear to my soul, and to all who are needing a word of encouragement. Life can be brutal, but God has not left us without hope. He’s offered Himself—our spiritual sunshine for the day!

Sunshine is one of natures most generous gifts, and yet all too often we take its presence for granted and forget to soak in its life-giving force. Life cannot exist without the sun. Not only does it provide the source of food for all life on earth, but proper exposure also provides us with warmth, light and a general state of well-being and happiness.

Why the Soul?

Man has three parts—body, soul, and spirit. The soul (Greek, “psyche”), consists of the mind (which includes the conscience), will, and emotions. In Genesis 2:7, we read that man was created  as a “living soul.” The soul and spirit of man are also mysteriously united by what Scripture calls the “heart.”Personally, there’s nothing that would make me happier than to experience the warmth of God’s light and love within my soul —mind, will, and emotions, and my heart!

I pray that as I share my thoughts while experiencing the ups and downs of life, and walking towards the sun, that you’ll also feel the warmth of God’s love. This blog is a work in progress, much like my life. God is taking the broken and making it beautiful, one piece at a time.

I’d love to know what you think of my new title. Any comment/thoughts would make me smile 🙂

Until next time dear friend.

Spread the sunshine!

  1. Healing is hopeful. I’ve been writing from my broken place for a long time. Between a spouse with PTSD, a child with an unidentified developmental disorder, I’ve had to fight to hold on to hope. The Lord is faithful and has carried me through many valleys. I cling to the assurance that this life is just temporary and someday we’ll be in a place where brokenness no longer exists. Love your blog!

    1. Thank you for sharing! I’m sorry for all you are dealing with. Somehow I think writing also helps to cope during these times. I pray that you’ll sense God’s comforting presence. What you wrote was so beautiful. . . clinging to the hope that this life temporal and one day we will be in a place where brokenness no longer exists. Amen. Thank you for visiting my blog and for the encouraging word x
