Are you feeling tired, sad, or generally not well? Did you know that laughter can help?
“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” —Proverbs 17:22
Years ago, I recall having a bad stomach ache after eating a rich meal with friends. Being there was no doctor present to help me, I did what most of us do when we have a question, I asked Google.
A quick google search revealed that laughter was good for digestion (and many others thing). So guess what I did? I laughed, and laughed, and laughed. The next thing I knew everyone was laughing with me (or maybe they were laughing at me Lol!). Within a short while, my stomach ache was cured!
There’s a reason the writer of Proverbs calls laughter good medicine 😊
I’ll be the first to admit, I don’t always feel like laughing. Life’s not always easy, and I still cry when I hurt. But when I can, I use mindful laughter, smiling, and a joyful spirit to ease my pains and lift my spirit. I try to be thankful and focus on good things. I also try to remember that God loves me and that I can call to Him to ease any pain.
“I believe that if people can get more laughter in their lives, they are a lot better off,” says Steve Wilson, MA, CSP, a psychologist and laugh therapist. “They might be healthier too.”
Here are ten benefits of laughter that I hope will encourage you to laugh more often during the day.
- Laughter has been shown to strengthen the immune system
- Laughter can diminish pain
- Laughter can boost energy
- Laughter can reduce stress
- Laughter can aid digestion
- Laughter can help to eliminate toxins
- Laughter lightens the mood of those around you.
- Laughter is similar to a light workout
- Laughter can nourish the spirit
- Laughter is a natural antidepressant
Oh, and did I mention? Laughter is contagious! Your children, friends, relatives, dogs, and anyone in your presence will sense your happy mood; it relaxes them, and in return reinforces their happy disposition!
Hope be with you!

Wow! I cannot even tell you how ingenious this devotional is. God created us to be in a vibrant relationship with Him, yet we’ve become so busy all we’ve done is put Him on our to-do list and spend little time drawing near. Well my friend, that is about to change! “Lord, Help Me Flourish” is the single most creative devotional I’ve ever seen. It will remind you that God designed you to be in a passionate love affair with Him while drawing out your imaginative, artistic side you forgot you even had. Plan to give one to every woman you know! It is truly an inspired work of art.
