Thoughts on “Letting Go”

“Letting go” is never an easy process, and to be honest, it only makes it harder and more painful when someone says,
Just let it go.”

If it were that simple, the world would be a much happier place!

I think what people struggling to let go really want to know is:

HOW to let go.

After all my searching, I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s no easy “formula” to letting go of pain. It’s simply a process the body and mind goes through, almost like birthing a baby.

The details of “letting go” will also be unique to each of us.

For me, the first and most important step in letting go was found in God’s Word:

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Romans 8:28

Knowing that God was working all the details of that season of life for my good was the most liberating truth of the process:

  • It gave me purpose.
  • It gave me HOPE!
  • It helped me to look ahead, not behind.
  • It helped me focus on what I was learning, rather than on what I regretted.
  • It also helped me to realize that letting go was not the end of my story, it was just the beginning of an exciting new chapter!

What inspirational verses, quotes, or thoughts have you found helpful in the “letting go process”?

“There are things that we never want to let go of, people we never want to leave behind. But keep in mind that letting go isn’t the end of the world, it’s the beginning of a new life.”– Unknown
