Life isn’t always fair or easy, and I don’t always feel like “it is well with my soul”. But when I close my eyes, listen to worship music like this one, and even sing along, I receive peace. “It Is Well”, sung by Kristene DiMarco (Bethel Music) is one of my favorite prayer songs. I refer to this as a prayer song because listening to worship music and singing along can be a form of prayer.
But maybe you are wondering, how can I sing, “It is well with my soul”, when things don’t seem to be going well?
Here are 4 reasons that come to mind (there are of course many more).
It Is Well With My Soul because. . .
- My peace and joy is anchored in the hope of Heaven, not in life’s circumstances. “This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls…” Hebrews 6:19 NLT
- God is good, even when life doesn’t feel good. “Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! His faithful love endures forever.” Psalm 136:1 NLT.
- I trust that God is working all things for my good, because I love Him. “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” Romans 8:28 NLT
- Nothing can separate me from the love of Christ . . .“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35, 38-39 NLT
Do you need peace of mind and heart today?
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Isaiah 26:3
Take a moment to fix your thoughts on God. Close your eyes, listen and pray the song “It is Well” with Kristene DiMarco from Bethel Music. We all struggle at times to declare our faith, especially when feeling down. But singing and listening to worship music will refocus your attention on God and lift your spirit. I can testify 🙂
My earnest prayer is that today, tomorrow, and throughout your life (come what may) you too will be able to say, “It is well with my soul.”
