Dear God, Make Me Brave

By Leila Grandemange

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.—Isaiah 41:10

Feeling discouraged, I knelt to journal and pray. Discouragement, fear, and anxiety lifted when I heard His response. Read His response to me in this poem I wrote . . .

Dear God, Make Me Brave

I asked God to make me brave,

and He responded, “Just hold my hand.”

I asked God to teach me to fly.

And He responded, “Just hold my hand.”
I asked God for the speed to run fast. And He responded,

Just hold my hand.
I didn’t understand why at first, and then I realized . . .

How much BRAVER I was with Him at my side.

How much HIGHER I could fly with Him lifting me up.

And how much FASTER I could run with Him leading me on.
I nestled my head in His shoulders and prayed once more,

Dear God, never let me go!

And He responded,

“You are etched in my hand, it would be impossible to let you go.”
Then I closed my eyes and felt sweet peace,

and SMILED!

  1. You are so precious because you open yourself up to the Lord, and let Him fill you with His wisdom and love. Thank you for this post; it is very encouraging and should be a daily reminder. I am going to print it out!

My dear Bible teacher from school gave me a figurine that has an open hand with a child leaning onto it with a scripture from Isaiah 49:15-16, “I will never forget you, I have carved you upon the palms of my hand.”

Thank you my dearest. He has gifted and blessed you richly. I need to read your posts regularly and be encouraged from hearing what He shares with you.

    Love you!
